Nextek's STAR Solar Mobile Unit Featured on weatherchannel.com

The Weather Channel's web site, weatherchannel.com, has picked up the story of Stony Brook Professor Brooke Ellison's use of the Nextek STAR solar mobile unit, and has created a video for the site.

Ellison, paralyzed from the neck down in a car accident when she was a child, requires a ventilator with uninterrupted electricity production to keep her alive. She did not let that stand in her way, however, and went on to earn a Ph.D. from Harvard. Although she uses a generator to provide backup power for her ventilator, major power outages, such as due to hurricanes, can mean complete power loss and a trip to the hospital for her.

The Nextek STAR works in conjunction with the generator, collecting and storing solar energy for those times when the generator needs it, keeping the generator from overuse and possible breakdown.
